Anna Ercoli Schnitzer, InfoPoint librarian at the Health Sciences Libraries, received the Laurita Thomas Diversity Champion Award at the U-M Health Systems Diversity Summit Oct. 22. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to creating and promoting an inclusive environment by participating in events and programs on diversity awareness, displaying a long-term commitment to valuing diversity, assisting in education efforts within the workplace, and serving as a role model for institutional values and commitment to diversity.
Heidi Kumao, associate professor of art, School of Art & Design, has been selected as the inaugural Michigan Innovative Artist Award recipient. She will be honored Nov. 13 at the 23rd Annual Governor’s Awards for Arts & Culture at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The awards night honors those who have made a significant impact on the arts and culture in Michigan.
Paula Allen-Meares was selected by the Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education (HPPAE) to receive the 2008 Leadership Award for Outstanding Dean in Aging. Allen-Meares was honored for her efforts in advancing aging through research, community service, strengthening university-community ties, and securing institutional and financial support for aging.
Letha Chadiha has been selected to receive the Outstanding Mentorship Award administered by the Gerontological Society of America’s (GSA) Task Force on Minority Issues in Gerontology. The GSA fosters collaboration between biologists, health professionals, policymakers, and behavioral and social scientists to promote healthy aging.
Elected
Ellen Arruda, professor of mechanical engineering and professor of macromolecular science and engineering, College of Engineering, recently was elected a fellow of the Society of Engineering Science (SES). She was recognized for research contributions, and her service on the board of directors and as SES president in 2004.
