The Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism, co-authored by Department of Asian Languages and Cultures Chair Donald Lopez, has been awarded the Dartmouth Medal for 2015. It honors the most outstanding reference work of the past year according to the American Library Association. Lopez is Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, Arthur E. Link Distinguished University Professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, and professor of Buddhist and Tibetan studies, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, LSA.
Monica Ponce de Leon, dean of the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, is featured in the recent online publication Archinect and its feature “The Deans List,” an online interview series with the leaders of architecture schools worldwide. The series profiles a school’s programming, defined in this segment by Ponce de Leon. She is also the Eliel Saarinen Collegiate Professor of Architecture, and professor of architecture and urban planning. Mike Waring, executive director of federal relations for the University of Michigan and director of its Washington, D.C., office since 2000, has been named winner of the Bayh-Dole Award. It is given in recognition of the recipient’s untiring efforts to foster and promote intellectual property activities on behalf of the university and nonprofit community. Waring oversees federal lobbying activities for Michigan. He also works closely with higher education associations.
