Margaret S. Wooldridge, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of mechanical engineering and professor of aerospace engineering in the College of Engineering, is among six exceptional U.S. scientists and engineers recently named recipients of the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award for their contributions in research and development that support the U.S. Energy Department’s science, energy and national security missions. Wooldridge was named for her work advancing energy science and innovation. She will receive a medal and a $20,000 honorarium at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Michael Spencer, associate dean and professor of social work, School of Social Work, has been selected to give the 2014 Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecture at the Council on Social Work Education annual meeting. Spencer was chosen because of his body of work in equity and social justice.
Jeffrey MacKie-Mason, dean of the School of Information, and Victor Strecher, professor in the School of Public Health, were recently elected to the University Musical Society board of directors. They join three other new members and a new ex-officio board member.
