Campus hangout: Cool limeades make warm memories
Opened in the 1920s, Drake’s Sandwich Shop was a familiar campus eating spot for students, faculty and staff, with its high-back green wood booths, grilled pecan rolls, limeades, pots of tea and small sandwiches. Closed in 1993, the spot at 709 N. University now is home to Bruegger’s bagels. A Facebook page created for Drake’s currently lists 271 fans.

The University Record reported mid-February would be moving time for several university administrative units, as their new home, the Student Activities Building, had been completed. Offices of the Dean of Women, Dean of Men and Student Affairs were scheduled to move from the Administration Building, now the LSA building, to the new Student Activities Building about Feb. 15. Other administrative units were to take over the space vacated in the Administration building, relieving crowded conditions in some offices.
