Clarence Cook Little, 36, a Harvard University graduate with a keen interest in biological research, was hired as president in September 1925. He expressed theories of education in speeches and in reports after his arrival at Ann Arbor. Little was concerned with the methods used by colleges in dealing with students and felt that the individual was being neglected. He believed that the fitness of an individual for college should be carefully weighed, and once the student was enrolled their special capabilities should be considered at every point. — From “The University of Michigan, An Encyclopedic Survey”
