President Mary Sue Coleman has appointed an advisory committee to assist with the search for Ruth Person’s successor as chancellor of UM-Flint. The search process will begin early this fall.
The Chancellor’s Search Advisory Committee, will assist in the process of identifying and recruiting a new chancellor. The university also will engage an executive search firm to further identify candidates. Person announced in January that she would step down in August 2014, after a one-year extension of her five-year term as chancellor.
In a message to the UM-Flint community, Coleman says there will be opportunities in the coming months for faculty, staff and students to participate in the search process.
“I am proud of the University of Michigan-Flint and the wonderful work of its faculty, students and staff in maintaining the tradition of excellence on campus,” she says. “I look forward to working with you this academic year to find the next leader of this outstanding university.”
The committee will be chaired by Susan Gano-Phillips, professor of psychology, UM-Flint College of Arts and Sciences. Other members of the committee from UM-Flint include:
• Karen Davis, administrative assistant intermediate, Department of English.
• David Gordon, dean, School of Health Professions and Studies.
• Suzanne Knezek, associate professor of education, School of Education and Human Services.
• Keith Moreland, professor of accounting, School of Management.
• Chris Pearson, professor of physics, College of Arts and Sciences.
• Michelle Rosynsky, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs.
• Erika Trigg, a senior in the Honors Program, majoring in communication.
There also are three UM-Flint supporters on the committee. They are:
• Olivia Maynard, regent emerita.
• Ridgway White, vice president of special projects for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
• David Zick, president of Group Associates Inc. and Rehab and Mobility Systems.
In addition, Lisa Connolly, project manager and the president’s liaison to executive searches, will work with the committee. Sue Fabbro, executive secretary in the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will provide administrative support for the committee.
