Bierbaum to head global environment panel
Rosina Bierbaum, former dean of the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE), and a professor of natural resources and environmental policy with appointments in SNRE and the School of Public Health, has been selected to serve as the chair of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel of the Global Environment Facility, part of the United Nations Environment Programme. She will bring extensive domestic and international science-policy expertise to bear to support the world’s largest public funding mechanism for the global environment.
Bradley J. Cardinale, associate professor and director of the Conservation Ecology Program, School of Natural Resources and Environment, has been elected to serve as a U.S. representative on the Science Committee for the new United Nations initiative Future Earth. It will merge U.N. environmental programs into one program for global change research. The representatives are charged with establishing research priorities and activities in the natural and social sciences, and humanities and engineering.
Kristy K. Martyn, School of Nursing associate professor and chair, Division of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction Programs, has been selected for induction as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Fellows are selected for their leadership in education, management, practice and research. They work with the academy and engage with other health care leaders to improve America’s health care system.
The Society of Vascular Medicine has installed Dr. James B. Froehlich to a two-year term as president during the society’s 24th annual Scientific Sessions. Froehlich led the scientific program committee responsible for the content of this year’s sessions. He is director of vascular medicine at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, director of the Anticoagulation Clinic, and an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.
