Accolades

Dr. Samuel M. Silver, assistant dean for research and professor of internal medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Medical School, and member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been elected chairman of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network board of directors. A recognized leader in the field of oncology, Silver has been elected a master of the American College of Physicians and specializes in hematology.

Michael Waring, executive director of federal relations and director of the Washington Office, has been named the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM ) Volunteer of the Year. The award was created to recognize individuals for their leadership and outstanding service to the AUTM membership. Waring has been active in AUTM advocacy issues, providing information to the board of directors for visits to Capitol Hill, and updates on issues.

Dr. Scott D. Gitlin, associate professor of internal medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Medical School, has been elected president of the Association of Specialty Professors and is a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Alliance of Academic Internal Medicine. Both groups seek to define and promote excellence in medical education and training, scientific discovery, and patient care in departments of internal medicine.
