The Men’s Glee Club “Music of the Americas” concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hill Auditorium features music ranging from the American Revolution to pieces composed this year, performed by one of the oldest collegiate choruses in the United States, founded in 1859.
Concert highlights include Professor Emeritus George Shirley singing a new work by Kristin Kuster, assistant professor of composition in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The Glee Club will perform a new work by Rollo Dilworth commemorating Hill Auditorium’s 100th anniversary. The composition focuses on the life of abolitionist Harriet Tubman who died in 1913 — the year Hill Auditorium opened — using the contemporary poetry of Eloise Greenfield and musical language reflective of the spiritual and gospel traditions.
Former EPA administrator to deliver sustainability lecture
Lisa Jackson, the former administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, comes to U-M Thursday to deliver a lecture on sustainability.
The public lecture begins at 3:30 p.m. in Room 1040 of the Dana Building, 440 Church St. It is sponsored by School of Natural Resources and Environment, the College of Engineering and the School of Public Health, and will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
“My conversation will focus on a central theme: Are the sustainability efforts we see from corporations and government making a difference? Ten months after the Rio Summit, what should the United States be doing and what is the role of policy makers in shaping that change?” said Jackson, who left her role in the Obama administration in February.
