The Board of Regents on March 21 approved the creation of 50 additional collegiate professorships, bringing the total number of the faculty honors available to 280.
Collegiate professorships are one of a number of honors that can be awarded to senior faculty members. Faculty members are appointed to these professorships by the Board of Regents, based upon the recommendation of the provost and dean of the professor’s school or college.
“The collegiate professorships continue to be an important means of honoring distinguished faculty and have contributed significantly to the university’s ability to retain some of its most prestigious faculty,” Provost Phil Hanlon wrote in requesting approval of the increase.
Appointments typically are for five-year renewable terms with an annual stipend of $3,000. The honors are funded by the schools and colleges.
