Accolades

Lester P. Monts, senior vice provost for academic affairs, senior counselor to the president for the arts, diversity and undergraduate affairs, and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor or Music, recently received the Performance Excellence Award from the Chinese Language Council International in Beijing, a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education. The honor recognizes his commitment to promoting Chinese arts and culture at U-M and beyond. He also received an honorary professorship from Dalian Jiaotong University.

Dr. Aaron Havens, a third-year resident in the School of Dentistry’s graduate orthodontics program, has won the Milo Hellman Research Award from the American Association of Orthodontists. Havens is exploring whether it may be possible to use a person’s cells to develop therapies that can regenerate tissues in the craniofacial region. This marks the third consecutive year a U-M orthodontics resident has won the award.
