Police investigating sexual assault at West Quad
University police continue to investigate a report of a sexual assault from Jan. 13 at West Quad residence hall. Video images were released the next day in an effort to identify the male subject. They can be viewed on the U-M police website at www.police.umich.edu.
A student had reported to police that she was assaulted in a lower-level common area by a man she had just met at an off-campus party. He reportedly had walked her to West Quad and then assaulted her. The updated description of the suspect is an Asian male, college-age, 5’6” to 5’8”, thin build, black hair and wearing a royal blue top over a white t-shirt and black pants.

Charges denied for report of inappropriate sexual contact
The county prosecutor’s office denied authorizing arrest charges last week in connection with a report that a temporary University Hospital nurse had inappropriately touched a patient in early December. A patient had reported Dec. 10 that the incident occurred when she was receiving treatment in the Emergency Department on Dec. 7. The case has been closed.
Burglary report submited to prosecutor’s office
An investigation into four reported burglaries at South Hall in December has been submitted to the county prosecutor for their review and possible authorization of charges. A 21-year-old student was found by a professor at 10 p.m. Dec. 19 in the professor’s locked office. The professor was able to learn the student’s name and that the student had keys to the professor’s office before the suspect left. No property was stolen at that time. Later that night, university police located the student at his off-campus apartment.
Earlier in the month, two iPads and a coat had been reported stolen from locked South Hall offices. The student, who is not a Law School student, was arrested Dec. 19, processed and released pending the investigation into the four incidents.
Tools, equipment taken from Botanical Gardens
More than $20,000 in tools and construction equipment reportedly were stolen from a locked storage unit at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. A contractor reported the burglary to U-M police Dec. 5. A lock on the storage unit had been cut by a saw. The incident reportedly occurred sometime between noon Dec. 4 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5. There are no suspects.
