Two assaults on Oct. 20
Two separate aggravated assaults reportedly occurred Oct. 20, resulting in emergency room visits for each victim.
Around 2 a.m., a university police officer observed a fight near Washtenaw Avenue and South University. As the officer exited his vehicle, he observed one of the fighters unexpectedly strike a bystander before fleeing. The officer caught the suspect nearby and arrested the 20-year-old Michigan State University student. The first victim, an 18-year-old U-M student, was taken to the University Hospital for treatment, while the second victim could not be located. The investigation is continuing.
In a second incident later the same evening, a 26-year-old visitor was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by friends after suffering facial injuries. The victim reported that after the MSU football game he had been tailgating on the U-M Golf Course, when an unknown male punched and kicked him in the head. The suspect fled the scene when his friends attempted to intervene.
Money stolen from Law Library change machine
A pull-down security gate leading to the Law Library apparently was cut by an unknown person, who then broke into a nearby bill exchanging machine Oct. 14 and stole about $20. Entry to the building apparently occurred through a broken exterior window on the main floor. No other property was reported missing, nor was additional property damaged.
Property missing from a Northwood apartment
After the October fall break, a Northwood resident in the 2100 block of Cram Place reported that a ring and three necklaces were missing from a living room cabinet when she returned Oct. 18. There were no signs of forced entry and there are no suspects.
Missing vehicle found nearby
A student told university police that his 1998 Pontiac had been stolen from the Hill Street parking structure, but later it was found at a church on Washtenaw Avenue. The student said he parked his car around 11:30 p.m. Oct 19, and when he returned around 6:30 p.m. the next day, the car was gone. When the car was found at the church three days later, it did not appear to have additional new damage. There are no suspects in the case.
