This month in history (86 years ago)

The legislature in 1925 appropriated $400,000 for construction of a building for architecture. Construction began Oct. 1, 1926, on the south half of the block bounded on the north by South University Avenue and on the west by Tappan Street. Renamed Lorch Hall in 1980, it now houses the Department of Economics among other offices. The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning now occupies the Art & Architecture Building, built in 1974 on North Campus. — U-M Encyclopedic Survey and the Bentley Historical Library
