Missy Stults, doctoral student in the Urban and Regional Planning Program, Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, recently won second place for her essay, “Sustainable Energy for All — Building a Sustainable, Resilient, Affordable, Accessible and Equitable Energy Future.” A science research fellow working on urban resilience to climate change, she is scheduled to present it at the 2012 World Energy Forum in Dubai.
Professor Patricia Wittkopp, associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and associate professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology, LSA, was selected as one of six interdisciplinary faculty nationwide to create guidelines for a new Academy of Distinguished Teachers at the University of Texas (UT).
Her membership on the Genetics Society of America’s Education Committee and selection by UT underscores how her contributions to teaching are impacting college education nationally.
Two U-M mental health researchers have won the Institute of Medicine’s Sarnat Prize for their studies on the biological roots of emotions, mental illness and substance abuse. Huda Akil and Dr. Stanley J. Watson, co-directors of the Medical School’s Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute, were awarded the 2012 Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health by the Institute of Medicine. The prize consists of a medal and $20,000.
