U reminds campus community of election-related information

The deadline to register to vote in Michigan for the 2012 general election is Oct. 9.

“This November, we will choose leadership at every level — from president of the United States to federal and state legislators, state and local judges, and members of city councils and township boards,” says Cynthia Wilbanks, vice president for government relations. “Ensure your voice is heard. Participate in the election process.”

Information about voting in Michigan is available on the Secretary of State website, tinyurl.com/8mpssfr. The voter registration application can be downloaded at tinyurl.com/3zgg2g.

Those who plan to vote in the City of Ann Arbor can register at the office of the Ann Arbor City Clerk, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 2nd Floor, Ann Arbor City Hall, 301 East Huron St. For more information call 734-994-2725.

Also in Ann Arbor, on Sept. 28 the Michigan Secretary of State’s mobile branch unit will be on campus to assist with Michigan voter registration and absentee ballot applications. The branch will be open in front of the Michigan League, 911 North University Ave. (at Fletcher) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Online resources are available for those who intend to vote in another state. Click on “Resources for Voters” and “Register to Vote” on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission website, www.eac.gov.

U-M faculty and staff who plan to participate in campaigns for or against a ballot initiative or political candidate are encouraged to review the online Campaign Guidelines information at www.vpcomm.umich.edu/guidelines.
