Dr. Brenda Bohnsack, assistant professor or ophthalmology and visual sciences, Medical School, has received the Research to Prevent Blindness Career Development Award. The award supports junior faculty who have demonstrated potential for independent research. Bohnsack’s research focuses on congenital eye abnormalities, such as Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome and primary congenital glaucoma, causes of blindness in children and young adults. The award provides $250,000 over four years.
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Nuclear and Future Flight Propulsion Technical Committee is presenting its 2012 Pioneer Award to Terry Kammash, Stephen S. Attwood Professor Emeritus and professor emeritus of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, College of Engineering. The award is for outstanding achievements, exemplary leadership and sustained contributions to the field of aerospace engineering in advanced nuclear fusion propulsion.
Alan Wald, H. Chandler Davis Collegiate Professor of English Literature and American Culture and a professor in the Program in American Culture, LSA, has been selected to receive the American Studies Association Mary C. Turpie Prize. The award recognizes his record of teaching and mentoring, as well as intellectual and administrative service to the field of American studies. It is granted partly on the basis of letters from former students and colleagues.
