University Record to adopt CIC UM Events calendar

The University Record is adopting the Campus Information Centers (CIC) UM Events calendar, effective today (Aug. 13).

The goal is to establish a single, complete general campus events calendar. This also provides the Record with an opportunity to upgrade from an aged system design, which in recent months has been subject to breakdowns.

Submitters currently registered at The University Record Online calendar now should submit events at the CIC UM Events page, the central events calendar serving the university community, at events.umich.edu. In keeping with this change, the University Record calendar is scheduled to close today.

The University Record faculty and staff publication also will adopt the CIC calendar as the information source for its weekly printed edition, and Coming Up items featured in the Record Update website and email versions also will link to the CIC calendar.

“We’ve heard from many on campus who want a single, compete listing of U-M events,” says Rick Fitzgerald, associate director of public affairs and internal communications. “This change will make that easier by focusing on one, comprehensive calendar website for the entire university community.”

Events of interest to faculty and staff submitted to the CIC UM Events page by a 5 p.m. Tuesday deadline will appear in the printed University Record the following Monday.

The CIC staff urges new event enterers to complete an application soon. Those who sign up to add events automatically will add their school or unit name on a sponsor pull-down menu. This makes it possible for other event submitters to identify a school or unit as an event co-sponsor, says CIC Manager Eric Heilmeier.

To submit events to the CIC UM Events site, go to that site and along the top menu bar click on “About,” to be directed to a welcome page. On that page, click on “application form” under the second heading, “Submitting Events.”

For questions on the CIC UM Events site, contact Heilmeier at [email protected] or call 734-764-INFO (4636).
