Employees can win $500 in prizes by participating in healthy programs

MHealthy is known for awarding its participants the gift of health. But in November, it also will award six lucky employees prizes valued at up to $500 each for participating in its health and wellness programs.

Benefits-eligible faculty and staff who sign up and participate in an MHealthy program or activity between July and October automatically will be entered into MHealthy’s November Grand Prize Drawings for the chance to win travel vouchers, sporting and exercise equipment, gift cards and more. Employees will get one entry for every eligible program they participate in.

With the completion of its Rewards 2012 program, MHealthy wants to continue the momentum and remind employees to take an active role in their health. It also hopes that the extra incentive will encourage those who might be reluctant to a sign up to give its programs a try.

“These are some of our most popular programs so if you’ve never participated in one this is a perfect opportunity to dip your toe in the water,” says LaVaughn Palma-Davis, senior director of Health and Well-Being Services. “Not only will you be improving your health but you might also be among the lucky ones to win $500 in prizes. You’re a winner any way you look at it.”

More than a dozen MHealthy programs qualify for the drawing, including:

• Fitness and nutrition consultations.

• Stress management classes.

• MHealthy Exercise & Relaxation classes.

• MHealthy Weight Management.

• Weight Watchers @ Work.

• Chef demonstrations.

• Summer Healthy Eating Series.

• Physical activity and nutrition department level programs.

• Active U Autumn 2012 (registration opens Sept. 11).

Betsy Sundholm, manager of University Unions Recreation and the Student Organization Resource Center, started participating in the MHealthy Weight Management Program in January 2011. “I have continued the lessons I learned in the Weight Management Program, still counting calories and eating a balanced diet with lots of whole grains, veggies, and fresh fruit,” Sundholm says. “ Since starting January 2011, I have lost 95 pounds and my blood pressure is great.”
