Award
Anton Reznicek, assistant director, research scientist and curator of vascular plants at the Herbarium, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, LSA, has received the Michigan Botanical Club Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to the understanding of Michigan plants and ecology and the Great Lakes region. Reznicek has researched extensively and published numerous papers on plant systematics and natural history relating to Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
Elected
James Wight, the Frank E. Richart Jr. Collegiate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and professor of civil and environmental engineering, College of Engineering, has been elected president of the 20,000-member American Concrete Institute. Wight, known for his work in earthquake-resistant design of concrete structures, will serve one year.
Selected
Dr. Marcos Montagnini, associate professor of internal medicine, Medical School, has been selected to receive the Spirit of Planetree Physician Champion Award for 2012 for the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. The awards promote patient- and resident-centered care by recognizing individuals who personalize and demystify the health care experience for others, and programs and services that support achievement in patient-centered care.
Rackham Graduate School students Maxim Romanov and Ronit Stahl are among 21 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellows for 2012 selected by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Romanov is a doctoral candidate in Near Eastern Studies, LSA, and Stahl is a doctoral candidate in history, LSA. Each 2012 Newcombe Fellow will receive a 12-month award of $25,000. The fellowship is the nation’s largest award for doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences addressing questions of ethical and religious values.
