Health-minded employees sought to become MHealthy Champions

MHealthy now is recruiting new members for its MHealthy Champions program (formerly Wellness Champions). Champions are staff and faculty volunteers who help to create a culture of health within their work areas. The deadline to apply is Friday.

MHealthy Champions have the opportunity to:

❙ Help tailor wellness programs and activities that best fit their work area.

❙ Work with MHealthy to achieve their area’s health improvement goals.

❙ Play a key role in building a healthier workplace culture.

“We encourage anyone who is enthusiastic about health and well-being, has the time to commit to the role and likes to positively motivate others to apply,” says Lisa Schneider, MHealthy and UMHS Patient Education Center project facilitator. “Our goal is to have a representative group of our entire university community that includes diversity in job roles and levels, age, race and gender.”

Champions serve a two-year term (with the option to renew) and spend approximately two hours per month on their duties. They are expected to attend two meetings a year, an annual retreat in June and a one-hour meeting in January. More than 400 employees served as Champions in 2011.

To apply, complete the application at champs.mhealthy.org. MHealthy will send an email to the candidate’s supervisor asking to approve participation in the program.

Current Champions who would like to renew their commitment also should complete the application.
