This month in history (94 years ago)

During the last year of World War I, U-M agreed to a War Department request in April 1918 to train non-college draftees as gunsmiths, machinists, motor mechanics, blacksmiths, telephone repairmen and carpenters. The Engineering College contracted instructors and supervised the program. By the end of November, 2,200 men received the training. — “The Making of the University of Michigan” by Howard H. Peckham
