First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton told a Hill Auditorium crowd of 4,000 that the arts and humanities are essential to fuel the imagination. Clinton said her first viewing of Picasso’s “Guernica” taught her about the human condition in ways other approaches could not. “We have to make sure that the arts and humanities are available in every school and community,” she said. Her 1998 address closed the university’s Year of Humanities and Arts celebration. — The University Record
