Michigan Radio wins AP, State Bar awards

Michigan Radio has won 11 awards from the Michigan Associated Press (AP) for news coverage in the past year, 14 awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, and an award for a series on Michigan’s no-fault insurance law.

The 11 AP awards include one for General Excellence in the Non-Commercial Radio category, which the station has won four out of the past five years. Michigan Radio also received 14 awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for achievement in broadcasting in 2011. The station’s awards include recognition as Public Radio Station of the Year, which Michigan Radio has won nine out of the past ten years. Michigan Radio also won seven first place awards and six merit awards.

Another recent honor went to Michigan Radio’s investigative reporter Lester Graham. He has been selected as a winner of the 2012 State Bar of Michigan Wade H. McCree Award for the Advancement of Justice.

Graham was recognized for his recent five-part series on Michigan’s no-fault insurance law. The series examined the impact of efforts to change the law, and the effect it could have on people badly injured in automobile accidents and auto insurance rates.
