The election process to fill two faculty representative positions on the Department of Public Safety Oversight Committee is under way.
One position will be filled by a member of the Faculty Senate in an election conducted by the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA). Election of the non-Senate faculty representative is being handled by University Human Resources.
Online voting for the non-Senate position is available now through 4 p.m. March 23. To review the statements of the non-Senate candidates and to vote, go to hr.umich.edu/dps/facultyballot.php. Voting more than once or for more than one candidate will result in disqualification. The candidates are Fred Askari, Robert N. Hensinger, Thomas E. Moore, David A. Moran, Mambo G. Mupepi, and William Wilkerson.
SACUA is communicating directly with members of the Faculty Senate about the election process for the Senate representative. The candidates are Richard Friedman, Daniel Klionsky and John Mansfield.
The six-member oversight committee consists of two student members, two faculty members (one Senate and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms. The committee considers grievances against police officers or DPS. Its findings and recommendations are reported to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
