Named

Kai Zhang, research fellow in the departments of Environmental Health Sciences and Epidemiology in the School of Public Health, is among 10 scientists recently named an Environmental Health Sciences 2012 Science Communication Fellow. His research includes a study of the human health effects associated with more frequent and intense heat waves predicted to occur with a warming climate.

The National Institutes of Health has announced that Dr. Carmen R. Green has been named to the new Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee. Green is a professor of anesthesiology, and of obstetrics and gynecology, Medical School; professor of health management and policy, School of Public Health; and faculty associate, Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research. Her research agenda focuses on areas including access to health and pain care.

Awards

Lloyd D. Johnston, Angus Campbell Collegiate Research Professor, Office of the Vice President for Research; research professor, Survey Research Center; and Distinguished Senior Research Scientist, Institute for Social Research, has been named to receive the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions Lifetime Achievement Award. Johnston is the primary researcher for the Monitoring the Future program, which studies the attitudes of American youth.

Elected

Dr. John Schulenberg, research professor, Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research; research professor of human growth, Center for Human Growth and Development; and professor of psychology, LSA, has been elected president-elect of The Society for Research on Adolescence. His term as president-elect starts in March 2012. His term as president runs March 2014-16; his term as past-president runs March 2016-18.
