Nine large vans loaded with sealed crates containing 19 million pages of Gerald Ford’s presidential papers and memorabilia arrived on campus Jan. 20, 1977 under heavy guard. The items belonging to the outgoing president and U-M alumnus were delivered to what is now the Physical Properties Building, 326 E. Hoover. In time for the 1981 openings of both the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library on North Campus, and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, papers were moved to the Ford Library, and museum objects and three-dimensional artifacts to the Ford Museum.
