Department of Public Safety invites public to crime meeting

DPS meeting

When: 8:30 a.m. Tuesday
Where: DPS main office, 1239 Kipke Dr.

University students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the broader community, are invited to attend the Department of Public Safety crime meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the DPS main office, 1239 Kipke Drive, near Crisler Arena and Michigan Stadium.

When U-M Police Chief Greg O’Dell was appointed earlier this year, he indicated one of his goals is to maintain an open relationship with the public and that he planned to conduct community meetings to promote a dialogue.

The hour-long meeting, which brings together DPS shift supervisors and DPS officers involved in crime investigations as well as representatives from Housing Security and Hospital Security, will include a review of recent major crime activity and trends, current criminal investigations and crime-prevention strategies.

Questions, concerns and suggestions from community members also will be welcomed and addressed. O’Dell said he anticipates the public meetings may be held twice each semester.

For more information about the meetings, contact Diane Brown, DPS public information officer, at 734-936-2323.
