Disability allies group to host labor rights talk

The Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) is scheduled to make a presentation on labor rights for the disabled from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Allies for Disability Awareness Community Organizing (ADACO) monthly meeting.

The presentation before ADACO, which seeks to unify the various student, faculty and staff groups on campus focused on disability concerns, is in the Earl Lewis Room at the Rackham Graduate School.

“There are specific groups devoted to issues regarding disability on campus. Our goal is to bring together all these different groups,” says ADACO volunteer Rachel Beckman, a Plainview, N.Y., psychology sophomore.

The meetings typically open with reports from various disability groups on campus, followed by a presentation. Members also discuss noteworthy events in the field of disability studies and share the status of their projects.

The GEO presentation will be followed by a button-making station portion of the meeting, in which attendees can learn how to make buttons that display slogans to promote disability awareness.

Refreshments also will be provided. For more information, go to the group’s website at www.umich.edu/~adaco.
