Arrests made in two robberies
University police arrested two individuals in separate street robberies in August.
An 18-year-old visitor was arrested Aug. 7 and released pending warrant authorization for unarmed robbery. A student told police that he and a friend were walking near the West Hall arch around 1:30 a.m. when they were approached by a group of young people. According to the student, the suspect tried to take the student’s wallet from his pocket before leaving the scene. Responding police officers located the suspect nearby. The investigation is continuing.
In a separate incident Aug. 15, a student told police he left his job at Hatcher Graduate Library Aug. 15 and was walking to his car parked south of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. When he was near the School of Education building, reportedly a group of males approached him and began taunting him. Then one male pushed the student to the ground and took his wallet and book bag. Before fleeing, the suspect returned the book bag. The responding police officers located the suspects nearby. A 21-year-old man was arrested on a probation violation, while a juvenile was detained in connection with the robbery. The juvenile remains in custody awaiting a Sept. 19 court appearance.
Student arraigned in assault of another student
A student was arraigned Aug. 29 on two charges in connection with an assault of another student outside the Michigan League. The suspect has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated assault. He is accused of kicking and striking another student around noon Aug. 3 during a dispute over a female friend. The suspect is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 14. The victim was treated and released at the University Hospital.
Sexual assault at University Hospital
A staff person at the University Hospital told university police Aug. 2 that she was inappropriately grabbed by a fellow employee on two occasions earlier that day. She was not injured during the incidents. The investigation is continuing.
Pry marks found on office door
A staff person reported to the Department of Public Safety that on Aug. 9 he discovered fresh pry marks on his office door in Lorch Hall, though it did not appear that entry was gained. No property was reported missing from his office, including his laptop that was visible through a window next to the door.
