Dr. Kevin Flaherty, associate professor of internal medicine, Medical School, has been chosen by The Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis to receive the Marvin I. Schwarz Research Award, which recognizes a researcher’s commitment to finding a cure for pulmonary fibrosis (PF). As part of the award, the CPF will make a $15,000 grant to Flaherty’s PF research lab.
Laurita Thomas, associate vice president for Human Resources, has been honored with the Executive Leadership Award from employee engagement association IdeasAmerica for decades of service promoting employee engagement at all levels. Thomas created and championed VOICES of the Staff, which offers staff the opportunity to share ideas and positively impact campus community issues.
Richard Bagozzi, the Dwight F. Benton Professor of Behavioral Science in Management at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and a professor at the College of Pharmacy, will receive an honorary doctorate in economics Sept. 7 from the Norwegian School of Economics. The school only has awarded honorary doctorates on two previous occasions, in 1986 and 1996.
Appointed
President Barack Obama recently announced his intent to appoint Rod Ewing, Edward H. Kraus Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences, as a member of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board. Ewing also has faculty appointments in the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences and Department of Materials Science & Engineering.
Elected
Jan Svejnar, the Everett E. Berg Professor of Business Administration at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and a professor of public policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, recently was elected to the 15-member Executive Committee of the International Economic Association. The IEA is an association of national economic associations.
