The following items were approved at the Board of Regents at its April 21 meeting.
MMPEI construction given final approval
The Board of Regents gave the final approval for the planned renovation and addition to the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Laboratory on North Campus. The renovation of 10,000 gross square feet on the second floor will provide state-of-the-art laboratory space for energy-related research for the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute, and a 10,000-gross-square-foot addition will provide space for the institute’s administrative functions. The $11.1 million project is being funded from investment proceeds, the Office of the Vice President for Research and the College of Engineering. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2013.
2012 regents meeting schedule set
The approved monthly meeting schedule for 2012 provides for 11 monthly one-day meetings, with no meeting in August. All meetings are on the third Thursday of the month, except for October 2012, which is on the third Friday, and December 2012, which is on the second Thursday. The approved 2012 meetings are: Jan. 19, Feb. 16, March 15, April 19, May 17 (Dearborn campus), June 21, July 19, Sept. 20, Oct. 19 (Flint campus), Nov. 15 and Dec. 13.
North Campus support facility planned
To meet increased demand for research computing and data storage capacity in a cost-effective manner, Information and Technology Services plans to place a modular data center on North Campus near the U-M Transportation Research Institute. The $6.2 million project will be funded from investment proceeds and is scheduled to be completed next spring.
Orthotics and Prosthetics Center to be expanded
A renovation of approximately 12,500 gross square feet at the university’s Eisenhower Corporate Park West facility on South Industrial is planned that will expand the Orthotics and Prosthetics Center. The expansion will result in a higher-capacity clinic and expanded laboratory area with accommodations for new programs. The $1.3 million project will be funded by the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, and is scheduled to be completed next spring.
New master’s, graduate certificate program in health informatics planned
The School of Information and School of Public Health will offer a joint master’s degree and graduate certificate in health informatics. The objective of the new program is to train experts who will bring a human-centered approach to the development and deployment of health information technologies. Enrollment for graduate certificate students is this fall; enrollment for the master’s program will begin fall 2012.
