Patient punches two staff
A 49-year-old patient punched a nurse and later a hospital security officer who was attempting to restrain him March 30. The nurse sought immediate medical treatment for facial injuries. When the patient was released from the hospital two days later, he was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County jail.
Kiosk papers burned
A staff person reported to the Department of Public Safety (DPS)at 3:15 a.m. March 29 that papers on a outdoor kiosk by the Kraus Building were burning. The fire extinguished itself. Ann Arbor Fire Department personnel responded to ensure the incident was resolved. No additional damage resulted. There are no suspects at this time.
Fourth report of BB gun fired from passing vehicle
A student reported to DPS April 10 that as she and three friends were walking the previous night, a passenger in a passing vehicle shot at them three times with a BB (or Airsoft) gun. No one was injured. The student waited about 19 hours before reporting the incident to police. This is the fourth report to police of similar description since January 29.
A reward of up to $500 that was announced March 16 continues to be available for information pertaining to these reports. Anyone with information about one or more of these cases is asked to contact DPS at 763-1131 or the University’s Anonymous Tip Line at 800-863-1355.
Additionally, community members are urged to contact police immediately if they observe similar events.
The reports include:
• April 10, 2:45 a.m. at Willard Street near East University — a student told police that she and three friends were walking along Willard when a dark-colored four-door compact sedan drove by. The passenger pointed a BB (or Airsoft) gun at the group and fired three times. No one was struck. The passenger was described as a white male, 21-24 years old, shoulder-length dirty blonde hair, medium build with a scruffy face.
• Feb. 27, 1 a.m. on South State Street by the Michigan Union — Two campus visitors told police that as they crossed South State Street from the Michigan Union about 1 a.m. to access a bus, they were struck by BBs from a passing blue four-door vehicle. They did not seek medical attention. Police were notified about an hour later.
• Jan. 29, 11 p.m. South State Street at South University — A student told police that he had been struck by a BB about 11 p.m. as he stood with a group of students at the corner of South State Street and South University Avenue. He did not seek medical attention. The student reported that the BB originated from a silver minivan.
• Jan. 29, 11 p.m. South Forest Avenue near Willard Street — A few minutes later, the Ann Arbor Police received a report of pedestrians being struck by small projectiles near Hill Street and South University Avenue. The students did not seek medical attention, and gave a similar description of a silver minivan.
