Sign up for the Women’s Football Academy and be among the first to meet new U-M Football Head Coach Brady Hoke and his staff.
The academy, now in its 13th year, will be held June 11. Funds raised will benefit the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Women get to learn the ins and outs of Michigan Football from the coaching staff and participate in various hands-on experiences, such as drills on offense, defense, passing, blocking and kicking.
Registration for the event is $125, $50 of which is tax deductible. Participants are required to raise an additional $200 or more to support the cancer center. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Event proceeds support initiatives within the center’s Patient and Family Support Services Program, which offers programs including complementary therapies, financial assistance services, nutrition counseling, psych oncology services and fertility counseling.
“The Patient and Family Support Services Program would not exist without the Women’s Football Academy,” says Karen Hammelef, director of Patient and Family Support Services at the Cancer Center. “The academy has provided the funds to build the foundation of each supportive program we offer. Every year, we are able to use the money raised at this event to address another patient support need.”
Since its creation in 1999, the program has helped more than 15,000 cancer patients and their families.
The academy is an opportunity to give women a behind-the-scenes look at Michigan Football, but more importantly, give them a chance to support cancer patients.
For the Michigan Football coaches volunteering their time, it’s their own way of helping to fight cancer.
“I lost my father to prostate cancer, so volunteering at this event is one way for me to give back,” says Fred Jackson, U-M Football’s running backs coach, who has volunteered at every academy. “I feel so blessed to have the chance to do something that raises awareness and dollars to help fight this deadly disease.”
