At the turn of the century both football and baseball were played at Regents Field, near where Schembechler Hall now is located. The grandstand was built in 1895. When Dexter Ferry purchased and donated the north half of the 40-acre parcel in 1902, the entire complex was renamed Ferry Field. — Courtesy Bentley Historical Library |
This month in history (46 years ago)After protesters in March 1965 canceled class to protest the U.S. occupation of Vietnam, drawing hostility from Gov. George Romney and University President Harlan Hatcher, the matter ultimately was settled by holding a teach-in March 24 and 25 with guest speakers, seminars and films. More than 3,000 students attended and 200 faculty members showed their support. — Bentley Historical Library
