University Musical Society President Kenneth Fischer was given the highest award in his field, the Fan Taylor Distinguished Service Award, at the recent Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference in New York City. Fischer was recognized for outstanding service, creative thinking, leadership and having a significant impact on the profession of presenting.

Karen Rhea, lecturer IV and director of the Introductory Mathematics Program, recently received a Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America. The award honors college or university teachers who have widely been recognized as extraordinarily successful and whose teaching effectiveness has been shown to have had influence beyond their own institutions.
