Dr. Martin G. Myers Jr., the Marilyn H. Vincent Professor of Diabetes Research, associate professor of internal medicine and associate professor of molecular and integrative physiology, U-M Health System, is the winner of the 2011 Ernst Oppenheimer Award presented by The Endocrine Society. Myers’ work researching leptin, a protein hormone that plays a key role in metabolic control has important implications for further research on obesity and addiction.
James S. Jackson, Daniel Katz Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, professor of health behavior and health education, School of Public Health, and director of the Institute for Social Research, received the Academy Medal for Distinguished Contributions in Biomedical Science from the New York Academy of Medicine. Jackson is the first social scientist to receive this award.
