This week in history (60 years ago)U-M became the first university in the country to experiment with a series of televised home-study courses for adults broadcast over television in cooperation with WWJ-TV in Detroit. The programs, on Sundays over a 14-week period, were divided into three 20-minute sections. The first section was an academic course, the second a how-to program, and the third a university showcase in which TV cameras explored classrooms, laboratories and libraries. In recent years, the university has initiated classes in which students in foreign countries can join classmates on campus via the Internet. — The University Record Have a campus memory to share?
