EarthFest 2010 will showcase sustainability efforts taking place at U-M and the surrounding communities. The two-day event will take place Sept. 21 on the central campus Diag and Sept. 23 on North Campus at The Grove.
Designed to be an interactive and fun event, EarthFest 2010 highlights include:
• A trash sort, where volunteers will go through a single day’s worth of trash from a U-M building to filter recyclables from traditional garbage.
• A pledge banner that gives participants an artistic, creative way to make a commitment to being more sustainable.
• Displays highlighting campus and community sustainability programs under the headings of the seven Integrated Assessment project topics — Buildings, Energy, Water & Land, Food, Transportation, Purchasing & Recycling, and Culture.

• Free food from local restaurants and farms.
• Live entertainment from various U-M musical and dance groups.
In keeping with sustainable values, EarthFest 2010 strives to be zero-waste; the sole giveaway will be handed out to those who sign the pledge banner. EarthFest 2010 runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. both days, and is sponsored by the Planet Blue Operations Team, the U-M Office of Campus Sustainability, the Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute and the Student Sustainability Initiative.
