Campuses, units celebrate Spring Commencement 2010

In addition to Spring Commencement’s keynote speaker President Barack Obama, university schools and units also will celebrate graduation with their own speakers and festivities.

Notable speakers include Valerie Jarrett, senior White House adviser and Michigan Law alumna; Robert Bobb, emergency financial manager for Detroit Public Schools; Charles Vest, former U-M provost and current president of the National Academy of Engineering; C. Robert Kidder, chairman of Chrysler Group L.L.C.; and Dr. Tom Frieden, director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Undergraduate exercises begin at 11 a.m. May 1 in Michigan Stadium.

University Graduate Exercises are at 1 p.m. April 30 at Hill Auditorium. The guest speaker will be Vest, who also is an honorary degree recipient. This is the commencement ceremony for all master’s and doctoral graduates and candidates who receive their degrees through the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. Graduates and candidates participating in University Graduate Exercises gather in Rackham Auditorium on April 30, beginning at 11:45 a.m. and arriving no later than 12:15 p.m. to participate in the academic procession to Hill Auditorium.
