Crisp air and maize and blue skies were the order of the day for hundreds of Wolverine faithful Sunday afternoon, many garbed head-to-toe in maize and blue regalia, who attended the 38-unit parade celebrating the football team’s Big Ten championship, Rose Bowl victory and national championship.
Parade participants included the football team, coaches, trainers and support staff; the Marching Band and cheerleaders; ROTC color guard; President Lee C. Bollinger and Mayor Ingrid Sheldon in horse-drawn carriages; and the Eisenhower (Utica) and South Lyon High School marching bands. Freshmen, sophomore and junior football players were on flatbed trucks, tossing miniature blue footballs to the children on the parade route. Photo by Marjorie Marshall
Senior team members rode the parade route two-by-two in convertibles, led by Brian Griese with his Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player trophy (above, left) and Charles Woodson with his Heisman Trophy (above, right), sporting a rose for the occasion.
