600 help test new way to fight flu

The University Record, January 21, 1998

Senior Rachel Facciolla did her part for science last week by participating in a study directed by Arnold S. Monto, professor of epidemiology. Funded by a private pharmaceutical firm, the study is designed to test whether one of the firm¼s medications will help protect people from being infected with the influenza virus. 600 students, faculty and staff received daily doses of the drug via inhaler and will be monitored to see if they catch the flu this winter.
