Photo: Museum’s pair of pumas in progress

The landmark puma statues that normally flank the U-M Ruthven Museums Building are being recast in bronze. Here at the Fine Arts Sculpture Centre in Clarkston, one of the bronze pumas has been welded together from 21 cast pieces. Next, Venus Bronze Works in Detroit will clean the new surface and apply chemicals to create a black patina. The pair of bronze pumas will return to their pedestals in late spring. The Exhibit Museum will celebrate their return with a Puma Party. (Photo by Dan Erickson)
