The Block M Records recording label and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business are the latest U-M units to join forces with Apple to make recordings, lectures, events and other materials available via the popular iTunes service.
The first Block M Records tracks available on iTunes embrace an eclectic mix indicative of the breadth of music making on the Ann Arbor campus. They range from Professor Louis Nagel’s recordings of piano works by Franz Joseph Haydn and Carl Phillipp Emmanuel Bach recorded at Hill Auditorium, to original free jazz improvisations by the faculty trio E3Q, comprising professors Katri Ervamaa (cello), Michael Gould (percussion) and Mark Kirshenmann (trumpet), recorded in the University’s state-of-the-art studio.
Also featured are spiritual works sung by Professor Daniel Washington, and Professor Anthony Elliott performing the complete cello Sonatas and Variations of Beethoven.
“Ross on iTunes” at the business school was launched March 16 in Hale Auditorium with a video presentation, demonstration of the service and iPod nano raffle for students.
Business school podcasts are accessible to members with an iMpact intranet login. Four podcast channels, including content related to the Center for Positive Organizational Scholarship, Dividend magazine, the Monroe Street Journal and the William Davidson Institute, will reside on the Apple iTunes U Web site, which uses the same technology as the iTunes Music Store.
The Block M Records and Ross School partnerships will allow users to download audio and video content to their Mac or PC and transfer the information to an iPod or MP3 player.
The School of Dentistry was the first at U-M to offer the application, and has been providing podcasting to students since September 2005.
