Fight leads to arrest

A student from Grand Rapids was arrested on an outstanding warrant Aug. 27 after a student from Massachusetts was transported to U-M Hospital for injuries sustained in a fistfight near State and Monroe streets. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) will seek charges for aggravated assault against the Grand Rapids student.

Ypsilanti man arrested for burglary

Percy Carter III of Ypsilanti was arrested Aug. 13 near the Student Activities Building in connection with an attempted larceny earlier that day at the Hatcher Graduate Library. A library staff member told campus police officers that she observed a man reaching into a purse in a library office. Police soon located Carter, who matched the description provided by the witness. The 49-year-old has been charged with burglary, which includes entering an unauthorized area with the intent to commit a crime, and trespassing. He remains in jail with bond set at $10,000 after waiving his preliminary hearing Aug. 25. Burglary is a 10-year felony, and trespassing is a 90-day misdemeanor.

Golf course safe taken

A one-foot-square safe was reported stolen Aug. 26 from the Golf Course clubhouse. Entry appeared to have been through a rear window. The safe contained almost $1,000.

Two cars, one moped stolen

Two cars that were reported stolen Aug. 24 from parking lots on Stone Road later were recovered in damaged condition. A 1984 Saturn sedan, reportedly taken from lot NW-52, was found on Plymouth Road by the Washtenaw Sheriffs Department with severe body damage. A 1995 Honda Accord, last seen in NW-54, was recovered in Ypsilanti Aug. 27 with the steering column damaged.

Additionally, a 2002 moped was reported stolen Aug. 25 from the Mott Hospital parking structure. DPS is investigating the three incidents.
