Awards Aruna Sarma, assistant research scientist in the departments of Epidemiology and Urology, is the recipient of the Frank J. McDevitt, DO Excellence in Research Award in the area of clinical research from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation. The award, which will provide Sarma $10,000 for research, is for her study entitled “Comparisons of Lower Urinary Tract Symptom Severity and Associated Bother between Community-Dwelling Black and White Men: The Olmsted County Study of Urinary Symptoms and Health Status and the Flint Men’s Health Study.”

The Geriatrics Center has awarded Beverly Bartlett, regional office director of the Upper Peninsula region in the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the 2003 Anthony V. DeVito II Memorial Award.

Bogdan Epureanu, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, has been selected to receive the 2004 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Ferdinand P. Beer and E. Russell Johnston Jr. Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award. The award is given annually to up to three individuals who have shown a strong commitment to mechanics education. The award will be presented to Epureanu June 22 at the ASEE annual conference in Salt Lake City.

Susan Montgomery, a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has won the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Spread the Word/Campus Representative Award for the highest number of faculty recruited in the North Central section. A plaque will be presented at the eighth annual campus representatives reception June 21 at the ASEE annual conference in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Anjanette Stoltz, clinical assistant professor of internal medicine and geriatric medicine at the Geriatrics Center, assumed the position of president of the Junior League of Ann Arbor May 11. The Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Reva Kidd, an administrative associate in the Physical Therapy Department, is U-M-Flint’s Staff Recognition Award winner for 2004. Kidd has worked at U-M-Flint for 21 years. She and the other nominees were recognized at the Staff Assembly meeting May 27.
