Fight results in injury, arrest
Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded to a call Dec. 3 of a fight in progress near West Hall. Officers found one person with non-life-threatening injuries, but he would not provide a statement to the police. A 20-year-old Ypsilanti man was arrested at the scene for aggravated assault.
Two visitors arrested in South Quad
A South Quad resident returned to his room Dec. 10 and reported finding an unknown person and what appeared to be a crime in progress. Darryl Young, 20, and Eric Gibbons, 19, both of Ann Arbor, are scheduled for a Jan. 20 pre-trial hearing on charges of home invasion second degree, a 15-year, $3,000 felony, and conspiracy, a felony of 15 years and/or $10,000 fine. Neither suspect is affiliated with U-M.
No suspects in other hall burglaries
A Stockwell Hall resident filed a report with DPS that she was missing clothing and a purse from her room after she had taken a nap Dec. 5 without locking her door. A Markley Hall resident reported Dec. 11 that computer equipment and a cell phone had been removed from the room during the night. A Baits resident reported Dec. 26 that artwork and electronic equipment were missing from his room when he returned from Christmas vacation. DPS continues to investigate these cases.
Ex-roommates don’t agree on fan ownership
A Bursley Hall resident reported Dec. 1 that his ex-roommate had entered his room and taken a fan. The former roommate indicated the fan was his. DPS continues to investigate the case.
Kellogg Eye Center office burglarized
An office in a portable unit near Kellogg Eye Center was ransacked, a report filed with DPS Dec. 8 said. A small window appeared to have been pried open, but nothing was reported missing.
Three motor vehicle theft reports filed
An unknown man jumped into a car in front of University Hospital Dec. 11 and sped away as the vehicle owner and valet attendant stood nearby. The car was recovered Jan. 11 in the city of Wayne with no visible damage.
A 1998 Mercury Mountaineer was reported stolen Dec. 6 from the Hill Street parking structure. The vehicle’s driver, a student, reported the car had been locked.
A Department of Psychology staff member filed a report Dec. 1 that several hundred miles of unauthorized use had been recorded on a department vehicle. DPS continues to investigate the case.
Incident at Hospital being investigated
A University Hospital staff member reported she was grabbed inappropriately by a patient during treatment Dec. 28. The incident is under investigation as a criminal sexual conduct case.
LCD projector theft reward continues
A reward of up to $10,000 continues to be available from U-M and Washtenaw Community College for information leading to the recovery of recently stolen LCD projectors and the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for the thefts. Police officers from multiple jurisdictions are pursuing several leads but have not made any arrests or paid any reward money.
