Reward increased for LCD projector thefts information
The reward for information leading to an arrest and property recovery of stolen liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors has been increased to a minimum of $1000. Six more projectors, valued at $4,000 to $12,000, were stolen in December from classroom buildings. Call the University’s anonymous tip line at (800) 963-1355 or Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Tim Shannon at (734) 763-3434 if you have information.
Suspects arrested
Several young men were arrested in the past three weeks by DPS officers for alleged recent larcenies and home invasions in campus buildings, including the Law Quad and West Quad. The men are age 17–24 years, and none are U-M students.
Suspicious device investigated
DPS officers investigated a suspicious device Dec. 11 in Medical Science II. The device, located in a service closet, appeared to be a pipe bomb. A Michigan State Police bomb specialist inspected the device, and later determined the device did not contain an explosive. The building was searched for additional devices, but none were found. DPS continues to investigate the incident.
Rackham renovations vandalized
Extensive graffiti was discovered Dec. 8 in areas of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies building currently under renovation. Enamel spray paint was liberally used on the marble floor and walls in the main entryway. Heavy equipment had been used to smash through construction fencing and temporary walls to gain access to the building.
Car destroyed by fire
A 1995 Dodge Avenger was destroyed during a fire in lot SC-34 Dec. 5. The Ann Arbor Fire Department inspector ruled the fire accidental as a result of a mechanical malfunction.
Staff suspected of breaking and entering
A 41-year-old staff person was arrested Dec. 18 in connection with an alleged breaking and entering that occurred that night at West Quad. A window was broken to gain entry. The staff person was found in possession of an allegedly stolen electronic measuring scale.
McDonald’s customers overcharged
Three customers of the McDonald’s restaurant in Pierpont Commons reported being overcharged Dec. 17 when using their Entree Plus card. Restaurant management refunded the overchages and is investigating the incidents.
Youths arrested
Sixteen young people were cited in the first three weeks of December for being minors in possession of alcohol. Additionally, five individuals were arrested for possession of marijuana.
