Student robbed near Stockwell Hall

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued a crime alert April 10 following an armed robbery in front of Stockwell Hall. A male student reported to police that he was robbed by two men after he withdrew money from an automated teller machine around 1:30 a.m. He reported that one man grabbed him around the neck and stuck a blunt object in his back, while the other subject took his wallet and removed his money. The student reported that he was not injured.

One suspect is described as a white male, age 23–24, 5 feet 9 inches tall with short hair and a goatee. The second suspect is described as a Black male, about 22, 6 feet 1 inch tall with medium-length hair, stubble on his face and wearing baggy clothes.

Drugs stolen from Health Center

The pharmacy at East Ann Arbor Health Center, 4260 Plymouth Road, was burglarized early March 26 after the front windows and doors were broken. Several prescription and controlled substance drugs were taken.

Ex-Medical School employee accused of embezzlement

A former employee of the Medical School was arraigned April 1 on two counts of embezzlement. The former administrative assistant, a 17-year U-M employee, had resigned in May 2000. According to DPS detectives, the former employee obtained in excess of $10,000 from department accounts. She was released on personal bond.

Student allegedly swings bat at pair

A student allegedly swung a baseball bat at two visitors during an argument over a parking space at Pierpont Commons on March 19.

Students reportedly fight outside class

Two students were reported to be fighting on March 21 outside a classroom in the School of Education Building. One student reported his nose was broken during the fight, which grew from an argument during a class debate.

Student arrested in brick-throwing

A student was arrested March 23 on malicious destruction of property charges after allegedly throwing a brick through the front door window of Couzens Hall. The student also was cited for minor in possession of alcohol.

Car stolen from parking structure

A 2000 Ford Taurus was reported stolen March 14 from the Catherine Street parking structure. The owner of the car is a U-M employee. She also reported her keys had been stolen earlier in the day.

Items stolen from parked cars

Reports were filed with DPS on March 31 by two employees who indicated thefts had occurred from their cars parked at the Church Street parking structure. A stereo was stolen from one vehicle after the windows were smashed, while a CD player and CDs were stolen from an unsecured car.

Alcohol, drug violations continue

During March, 65 people were arrested on campus for minor in possession of alcohol, while 12 people were arrested for violation of the Controlled Substance Act (possession of marijuana).

Additionally, four people reported parking permits stolen from their unlocked vehicles.
