Autopsy results pending
Department of Public Safety (DPS) Detectives are waiting for autopsy results from the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s office to help in the investigation of the death of Laning Davidson, who was found dead in his vehicle Jan. 28 in the Glen Street parking structure. The preliminary investigation found no outward signs of trauma or foul play. Davidson, 56, of Grosse Pointe Woods, had been reported missing for several days. He had earned two bachelor’s degrees from the U-M in 1967 and a medical degree from Wayne State University, but he was not a University employee.
Technology equipment popular with thieves
Six reports of stolen computers and projection equipment were received during January. Two computers and an LCD projector were stolen from the Art and Architecture Building, and single computers were reported stolen from the Media Union, the Michigan Union and G.G. Brown. No suspects were provided with the reports.
Always lock your vehicle
Ten parking permits were reported stolen during January—all from unlocked vehicles. To deter petty thefts, always lock your vehicle.
Money stolen from unattended office
Approximately $600 was stolen Jan. 24 from an unlocked office in the Taubman Health Care Center. The office door was left open while the tenant stepped away. Upon the tenant’s return, she observed a white female in her late 20s, approximately 5 feet 4 inches–5 feet 6 inches tall, with a medium build and brown, shoulder-length hair in her office doorway asking for directions. Alcohol arrests of minors continue
Despite many educational programs aimed at increasing awareness of the dangers of excessive drinking of alcohol, many violations continue. One indication of the continuing trend of alcohol overindulgence is the number of arrests and tickets issued for minor in possession (MIP). During January, 35 minors were cited on campus for alcohol possession. State law stipulates that law enforcement officials must cite persons under the age of 21 who have blood alcohol levels of .02 or more.
Counterfeit bill discovered
Staff at the East Ann Arbor Health Center discovered a counterfeit $100 bill had been used to pay for prescriptions and filed a report on Jan. 2. DPS investigators were following up with a possible suspect.
Lost and found
During January, 302 found items were turned into DPS, while 191 items were released to their owners. Be sure to call DPS at (734) 763-3434 to determine whether your lost property has been turned in.
